Xmas 1.6 or 1.7?

For Xmas I have modded out 5 xboxes so far with the X3 chip. This is what I've done and had problems with...

Two Xboxes with 1.0 - both chipped fine and work.
One Xbox with 1.4 - works
One Xbox with 1.6 mobo - works fine
One xbox with what appears to be a 1.6 mobo but doesn't work. I even took it back and got a second one...having the same problem with the second one. Very strange...
The version that I have gotten is the one that comes with the free games of TopSpin and NCAA Football 2005 and both had manufacturing date of 11-9-2004
I followed the instructions for the 1.6 installation of the X3. I rechecked and re-soldered all the connections in both of the 1.6 versions that I had. After chipping complete, get the blue light (no bios flash screen). Eject button changes color to orange after about 20 seconds. Chip will boot into disable mode with red light and everything works okay.
As I said, I chipped one V1.6 successfully (had the same mobo but it wasn't the same manufacturing date)
Both of the last two that I have attempted with following instructions of 1.6 install don't seem to work. Any ideas?

Try booting from Bank 1 1MB (1234) or Bank 2 1MB (5678)

settings are on on off off and off on off off respectively.

Also, what RAM is on this Xbox?

It has Hynix RAM in the Xbox. Everything appears to be a v1.6, as i said i have successfully modded a v1.6 but the last two that I have bought from the store the exact same thing has happened. Both of them are the version with the same manufacture date and both with the same game package.
I have booted with switches in different positions, but that shouldn't matter anyway. Should be able to get the bios flash screen no matter what the bank selector switches are on the front of the switch....plus I even tried removing the front selector switch to do it without the front switch and same result.
I read on xbox scene that this version with the two games doesn't seem to work with the LPC rebuild.
It seems very supicious that both of the last two have acted the same way. I thought maybe I fried the first one and ruined my chances, so i took it back and have tried a second one but its doing the same thing.

Finally someone is experiencing the same thing as me...I installed a 2.6 in a 9-27-04 dated box with Samsung memory and I could never get it to work. It also included the Top Spin/NCAA football game. I've also chipped a few older version boxes with no problem. This one has had me so perplexed as to why it doesn't work. I am going to return it and try again on another.

I sucessfully modded a 1.6b that I purchases 3 days before xmas and it came with the topspin ncaa football game combo. I also used the rebuild lpc. It really sounds like your vendor has not updated your cromwell bios on the x3 chip. Send it back and get it reprogrammed with 3.0.3

The funny thing is I have one too with date 11/8/2004 same game package same problems but I tried two different chips one of them booted to flashbios 3.0.0 and I took it back out and replaced it with the original chip and now Im back to where I started with the flashing green orange or sometimes just frag.

Pretty much anything with a manufacture date after 0904 is a 1.6b box. For this to be a successful mod you have to have:
Flash bios at 3.03
1959 bios
Check your versions?

Got it successfully installed and flashed now. Here's what happened:

Board appeared as v1.6 and used Pinheader install and wired the backside. All soldering was fine. The chip came preflashed with Flashbios 3.0.1 and booted to blank screen.
I didn't know how to update the flashbios to 3.0.3 so I put the chip back into an older Xbox that was a v1.6 rather than a v1.6b and flashed it with the 3.0.1 flashbios to put x3 1959 on the chip. Then moved the chip back over the the v1.6b and it worked. My question now is how to update the flashbios on the v1.6b so that it will have a 3.0.3 flashbios so that i can update to newer bioses down the road. I will research that i guess.

Moral of the story here is if you get a blank screen with a v1.6b mobo that you need to either use flashbios 3.0.3 (if you can figure out how to get it on the chip to begin with) or put it in an older v1.6 that can recognize the 3.0.1 flashbios then move the chip back to the new one. If you don't have another xbox laying around that is a v1.6 then you might be in some trouble.

And as far as returning the xbox even after it is broken into, I returned it to CompUSA and used some metal tape to cover two sealed screw holes. They took it back, but may come back to haunt me when they send it in for service *laugh* We'll see.

Alright, I'm having this problem but I'm hoping it might be something I over looked.

Used the pcb rebuilder, easy.
Got solder to stick to 5v lead, easy.
Can boot into ms dash.
Boots to blank screen with the chip.

My box has a production date of 10-4-2004, and has Samsung memory, which means it's a 1.6a. Mine, too, came with the Topspin/NCAA '05 combo, so that's what drew my attention to the thread, but mine seems like it shouldn't need the new BIOS, it being an A model. I don't have another, older XBox to experiment with, so what can I do? Does anyone know what could be causing it?
