Its an adapter to step down the size of a pci card my laptop requires it. The cheapest I've found the sata card and adapter is 10 for sata and 35 for the adapter US dollars. I have a desktop and used that till I mastered the process, then I took on the seemingly impossible task of using a laptop. Turned out to be not as crazy as everyone makes it to be, it was a bit expensive because of the extras, but totally worth it to be completely portable. Mostly trial and error with lots of swearing and hitting things, but I showed the laptop who was boss eventually. If u can wait, that new Lizard thing looks sick!
