Hello all,

Please do not think that I've posted here lightly. I've read everything I can find regarding this issue but nothing seems to resolve it.

Here is a description, followed by things I've tried / tested;

I can boot to backup bios fine.
I have been able to flash 3.03 into bank 8 no problem.
When the switches are off/on/off/on I can boot to 3.0 fine.
When switches are in on/off/on/off I can boot to 3.0 fine.

The flash says it goes through properly when flashing w/1959, but frags.

I can put the chip in my 1.1 box and it works fine (btw it only took me 15 mins to do my 1.1 box).

I've tested all LPC points on the board with a meter and ALL have correct continuity.

I've tested all voltages and all are correct.

I've bypassed the power/eject switch to no avail.

I have both 3.3 and 5v LED's on and operating properly.

I didn't think that any of the BIOS's would work if everything wasn't soldered up properly. BTW, the first time I booted the system after installing the chip, it booted perfectly to the FlashBios screen at which point I put the 1959 CD in and it acted like it worked perfectly, but then the frags started.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would be more than happy to say that it's the soldering job, however if I can trace out to the points on the motherboard and have continuity back to the header pins, then it doesn't seem likely its' the solder job. I'm sure I'm missing something here thats very different about the 1.6 vs the 1.1. BTW I've tried the rebuild board along with doing a manual wire install.

Putting the chip into the other box and it working obviously states that the chip is ok, but I'm at a huge loss here.

Thanks,
Ken

so far from my searching these forums seem to be totally useless and never have response. and the funny thing is that everyone is kinda having the exact same or similar problems. I.E. xbox frag. not powering on, or no bios loading what so ever. i garauntee that most of the issues ar probably due to improper installations but could we at least get a response telling us we are stupid or something. honestly. i just installed the chip myself and have experience with soldering and modding but am getting the same FRAG that everyone else seems to be getting. the xbox powers up fine when not using the modchip but once i use the chip it turns off and on and eventually the eject area blicks pretty colors. i don't expect a response but i just felt like posting like everyone else that team xecuter must be laughing at and not providing any help to. btw the so called forum faq area an infinite loop of redirection. thanks

I wanted to thank teamxecuter for the "lack" of support on this  .

After going thru the tut on determing which xbox version I had, it appeared to be a 1.6 based on the samsung RAM, however, the ONLY bios that I've been successfull in flashing is the 16plus version. With that I do get the rox box logo, but it will not go to the config live! screen.

I can run evox slayers install and do the setup on the HD, however, regardless it will always return to the ms dash.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this (ie different BIOS etc).

Thanks,
Ken

if you can run the evo disk i the mod must be working so on startup press and hold the white button and it should boot to config live. the v16 the the correct bios version for a 1.6 and 1.6b xbox the 1959 is for 1.0 to 1.5 xboxs.

Thanks ScottEvil,

Sadly, the white button has no effect. I press it just before hitting the power button and hold it all the way thru until I see the ms dashboard (or the evo menu if I have the cd-rw in). This may very well be a new issue to overcome. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Ken

I thought the flash bios 3.03 wouldn't work right in the v1.6 xbox

The latest cromwell works on the X3.

I noticed that you had the switches in positions off on off on. Have you tried them in position on on off off (off - flash prot) ?? I think that is the default ban 1 setup, and I know there have been others with frag issues similar to this.

first are you using the original ms controller because with my wireless controller i have problems getting to config live pressing the white botton because it takes awhile for the controller to connect.i would also take out the evox cd start the box with a quick press to get the blue x on the front switch panel then press the white button. you should not be able to boot the evox cd if the mod was not working. if this dosnt work i would probly try to reflash with the switches set to on,on,off, off flash protect off.

thanks all, yes I've tried with the switches in 1,1,0,0 position and I've tried flashing with the 3.0.0 version and yes sadly it's the original controller. All have the same effect.

I agree, if the chip wasn't working, I couldn't run evox.

I think the mfg date was 10/4/04.

Keep'em coming and I truly appreciate all the suggestions.

Best regards,
Ken

is it possible you misidentified your xbox as a version 1.6 when it is actually a 1.6b?

Again, I thought it was a 1.6 based on the RAM, but it appears to be a 1.6b. I just got another xbox for xmas today and am trying to decide if I need to choose another mfg chip based on these problems with this one.

cheers!

Any techie's canned answer to issues is “user error”. Unless each and every one of these chips was HAND TESTED by being inserted into a modified Xbox, then there is always a statistical possibility for flaws.
To deny this is to be either ignorant of the possibilities or belligerent of the problem. Thus far on the forums I have not had any valid, helpful solution to a problem that I am seeing pop up more and more frequently.

I have had the same issues as the original poster of this thread and have tried all of the solutions presented with no effect. I have done a more than thorough job of the install on my 1.6b box and am still having issues.

I love the X3 chip, and even got the X3LCD and a Dremel to further mod the box out, so I will try to mod another box using this same chip and if I experience the same problems, then I will be switching to another chip.

 BTW - There is precious little "literature" here in these threads. "Literary prowess" is not synonymous with being literate. Literary prowess is the skill or adeptness in which a person can compose great works of literature. Perhaps misunderstandings like yours, XCronus, are the real problem. Please, if you have nothing to contribute other than busting the chops of the person posting the problem, don’t post here... we're looking for real, answers to a real problem, not sarcasm and effrontery.

.......um, no...........

Sorry you can't solder the chip in correctly......

And, BTW, lemme whip out the good ol' dictionary.

Hmm.....literary-relating to literature
Hmm.....prowess-skill or ability

Lack thereof.....

Yup, if you think about it, it means: lack of reading ability.
Although I didn't explicitly say, "you guys are illiterate," that's really what you could get out of that statement.
Sorry, I just had to clear that up. And for your next attempted install, why don't you send it to some installer who knows what he's doing.

I beleive the chip does have a flaw. It is the cause of excess heat in the x-box. Popping solder points and fragging boxes.

As noted above, you were having the same problems but somehow you said you got it fixed. Can you mention how you got your problem fixed?

I'm having the same problems as his poster and have tried everything. I too have a thread open with little response.

Also with the new bios 1959, it shouldn't matter if it's a v.1.6 or v1.6b xbox. At least that's what I've been reading anyway.

Are you guys sure you put the right BIOS on the chip. If you put the X3_1959.bin on a 1.6 XBOX it will FRAG.

In order for you to reflash it you need to push both the eject button and the power at the same time to get to the Flash Bios 3.01.
