Just did a friends box on Tuesday. UPS delivered 11:30 AM, disassembled, soldered (1.6, 1st try), tested, re-assembled (already had HD loaded), configured (logo colors, flubber, startup paths, network, ect.), re-packaged by 12:05, dropped back to UPS at 12:15 and he had it the next day.

:D

1.6b
preflashed x3
solder+rebuild install
4 min

complete rebuild time from touching first screw to rebuilt and running, 10 min

but i've done over 1000 boxes, so im pretty adept at doing it now, im impressed by the first timers speeds though, definately a beacon of light in the otherwise dark see of frags

i wonder what is taking my installs so long..

im always thinking of new ways of speeding up the install..

I think the best way to speed up the install is actually yo take your time. that way it works 100% the first time. My solder time on that 1.6 was about 4-5 min.

for 1.6s I solder the pins of the hinheader that do not connect to the rebuild, then do the rebuild points on the MB then the pins.

Why go for a faster time?....

Even if you are a re-seller, and do 100 chips a week. You save maybe 5 mins a chip.... Is it worth a non good install? I'd much rather a slow install... making sure everything is ok, and not rushing. Trying to get the fastest time... Or trying to be faster, will most likely make you mess up. Just go at your own pace... naturally once you get better at soldering, at knowing where things go, and get the feel for it... you'll solder faster, and faster... as you get ready. IMO... looking for ways to solder faster is looking for a way to waste $150.....

That being said - My fastes was.... 25-30 mins? Taking a few breaks, I guess. But then something went wrong.... I was lazy, waited 2-3 hours... took it out, re-soldered 1 pin... took 30 seconds, put it back in... and walah. So.... 3 and a half hours? ;)

my fastest time was about 15 minutes on my 3rd x3 1.6 install @ one point in time I had the x2 install down to just over 1:00 on non 1.1-1.5 total install time of roughly 3:30

i'll post a video of a 3 minute install, using only solder, iron, x3ce, pinheader on a 1.6b, at some point this week, need to find a decent cam/webcam ;)

i agree taking your time improves the quality, but that doesnt really apply to those who know what theyre doing and can do it properly without much trouble, as long as you have the right tools, a clean iron/contacts, and the confidence, it takes barely 5 minutes to do the actual soldering.

im supprised that some people require hours, and even breaks.., it's what, 18 solder points at-most?

3-4 minutes to solder, 2 minutes to put back together. 10 minutes to format/flash/install evox/apps
