zephyr 15574 rjtag v1.1 problem - ideas very welcome

I have done so far 2 zephyr boards with RJTAG v1.1 both of them still work fine, one of them only boots though after the cpu heats up a bit. Anyway, this would be my third zephyr (and at least 6th RJTAG install) but I have run into troubles despite the excellent v1.1 RJTAG chip.


details: zephyr board on 15574, have never been RROD as far as I know, works out of the box just fine
dip settings 1.5v default, dip 2 on, 7 & 8 off (set to zephyr), uses aud_clamp and standard jtag wiring (with diodes no qsb)


See attached images and rater log. It gets to 0x2e always but usually fails at 0x58 INIT_HYPERVISOR -- restarts and repeats forever. I once hit 0x70 - INIT_VIDEO(DRIVER) but never anymore.

I tried the default xell image and the falcon based as well to no avail.


Please note that the CPU (and the GPU as well) have been reflown as per the manual just right now but it seems there is no difference at all. Of course it has been tested after the reflow -- works just fine.


Any ideas? Tried the v1.0 RJTAG chip as well, that one always fails at 0x21.

UPDATE(30/sep/13): It seems this guy only wants to boot when its CPU is cold - it booted xell twice when it was cold but the dash (based on 5770 falcon) just does not boot it stops the boot process here:

Have you tried using a falcon nand?
If you haven't then try this -> open J-Runner -> load your dump in the load source section -> choose falcon as motherboard type -> click on create xell reloaded -> write xell reloaded.
And again choose falcon as motherboard type for creating xebuild image.

Thanks for the ideas. Well, nand points are fine, it's just that the nand-x is still soldered in - no shorts, anyway it would not boot at all, would not get to 0x2e at all if that would be the case.

as of the falcon nand I have tried that as stated in the OP above. Error is the same.

Make sure u build the jtag image for aud_clamp, also try 330/470ohm for jtag reset bridge. Also check tdi/tms points with multimm. Seems a jtag wiring issue.

Thanks for the tip. I have tried it now with a jtag qsb as well. aud_clamp is checked always. 470 ohm, 330 ohm -- gets a bit slower to compared to just a short like on the image -- 0x2e but the error is the same.What do you mean by tdi / tms points? On the R-JTAG chip? Or on the xbox motherboard?

Ah, where the diodes connect to on J2D2 pins 1 & 2.Those are TDI & TMS - Am I right?
Points 3 & 7 are shorted or have the 470 ohm between.

Anyway I got fed up with this board and replacing it with a falcon. Zephyrs are suckers on so many levels.

It seems that the J2D2.1 and .2 points needed some through cleaning. I will try next time I come across a zephyr.
