RGH Zephyr - Issues Returning To Retail

Hello everyone, I'm trying to help a friend out with a Zephyr he botched the RGH on. I've done a few RGH boxes, but this one has be stumped. Here's the synopsis.

He flashed and installed the CoolRunner, all good there. Then, he dumped his NAND twice, compared, and they checked out good. He built the ECC and flashed it to his NAND. Unfortunately, the Zephyr refused to boot Xell. So, stupidly, he dumped the NAND twice again, and overwrote his two original NAND.

This is where he gave up and sent the box to me.

Luckily, I got it to boot to Xell, ONCE. This was enough though for me to write down the CPU key, but at the time I didn't have the forethought to write down the LDV from the F's.

Also, it appears that I can get a valid KV from the NAND, which is counter-intuitive considering Xell is suppose to write over the KV blocks. I don't know the original CB, but the dash was updated to 13604, and the current NAND shows 4578 CB.

Any ideas where to go from here? Thanks in advance!

I have 3 distinct NAND.bins I have made now, and none of them are working.

1) Built with Multi Builder - Does not load anything, and CoolRunner will try to glitch with it if enabled.

2) Hand patched KV and Config from donor Zephyr NAND - Fans go to 100%, RROD of 0022 after a minute, no boot.

3) Repaired using JTAG Tool and donor Zephyr NAND - Fans go to 100%, does NOT RROD or boot.

Here's the Donor Zephyr NAND I'm using.

You need to have your fuse sets match, I would keep trying to get Xell to boot again and get the LDV "f" once you match those you should boot and next time take a picture of the xell screen

OK, I'll give that a try. And if I can get it to actually boot Xell consistently, I can go ahead and get FreeBoot setup and everything will be fine.

Are there any tips for getting Zephyrs to boot consistently? I already have a cap across PLL_BYPASS and GND, and it doesn't seem to help.

I just finished a Zephyr CB 4578 and it booted to Xell every time on first or second glitch but sometimes on the forth (same for NXE dash), I’m not sure what's going on but I think at this time it's just a Zephyr. I haven't played with the location of the wires on the bottom yet but I've heard it can make a different, as for a cap haven't heard of this helping. If I can't get it to glitch right I may just put it back to stock, I did the one to sell and I didn't want someone having the wait time.

HOLY sh*t! It booted Xell again, once. I was messing around with the wiring, relocating POST_OUT1, and CPU_RST to the points on the top of the board. I powered it up once, no go. So, for sh*ts and giggles, I removed the cap that was across PLL_BYPASS and GND, and it worked, atleast once. So I have the Fusesets now!

Also, here are some pictures of the install.

Anyone? I now have the KV, CPU Key, and Fusesets. The only thing I don't have is the Pairind Data. Can anything be done?

Note: The Xell Image that I have won't open in 360 Flash Tool, thus I can't get the Pairing Data from it.

Your soldering from what I can see looks fine, you should now have everything you need to build a new nand, just use a donor nand and inject your KV in make and sure the LDV matches in line 7 (count the f's). You may need read some Tut’s on this to get everything correct, you should be able to build one from what you have.

Also read all of this tread, last post has some help

Thanks for all the help, I finally got it working. Someone else from the forum patched me a clean NAND, which didn't work at first, but I was able to patch my LDV to it, and villa, it worked!

Now if I can just get it to glitch...

Zephyr Glitches Inconsistently

Thanks to a few VERY helpful members, I got this Zephyr rolling again, at least back with a good NAND.

So now that it boots to MS dash perfectly, I thought I'd give it a try glitching it again.

Built the ECC and flashed it. Tried to boot it, nada, CoolRunner just kept flashing forever. Tried it a few more times, and miraculously it worked.

So next I tried a build FreeBOOT image, and again, nothing. Finally gave up on it, and transferred the files from Multi Builder to a USB stick. Somehow, magically, after two tries, the box booted FreeBoot for the first time ever.

The glitching is incredibly inconsistent though, and I can't get it to do it again. I've tried all sorts of wire routes, with no change, and even tried a capacitor from CPU_PLL_BYPASS to GND, and it actually made it worse.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this troublesome box?

Re: Zephyr Glitches Inconsistently

You should have kept this in your original thread, makes it easier for other people trying to correct the same problem, didn't need a new thread

Ah, sorry, my mistake. I'm still tweaking with the wiring, but it doesn't seem to be helping.

You are trying to glitch a Zephyr, I don't think any amount of tweaking is going to help.

Haven't you already heard that these consoles are a pain in the ass to glitch and when they are successful, boot times are very shabby.

Yeah mine is a good one and glitchs in 5 to 10 sec most of the time but then there is that 20 and 30 sec ones, not good for a customer they won't understand. I'll probably put it back to stock

Alright, well thanks everyone. I gave up on glitching it, but I'm having some other issues now.

It boots perfectly and does everything like it should, except read games. The DVD drive was having trouble reading anything before I glitched it, so I knew it was going out.

So I grabbed an extra BenQ I had, which matched the one in the Xbox, and flashed it with the Xbox's DVD Key. Now, it reads DVD movies perfectly, and when you put in a game, it displays the game name on the Game blade. However, if I try to play the game, it gives the;

"This disc is not supported" error.

Normally this error is due to an AP2.5 fail, as with the new DAE.bin updates. However, this xbox has NOT been on XBL since I updated the dashboard, AND it's doing this with retail games. Is it a possibility that the AP25 Challenge Database in the NAND is corrupt?

Actually, I may have found the issue!

I opened the current NAND in Flasher Tool out of curiosity, and noticed it will not allow the AP25 Database to be extracted because there is not one.

So, I opened a donor Zephyr NAND, and noticed it does have one and it can be extracted.

Would this be the cause of my issue? I attempted to import the donor AP25 Database into my NAND, but it wouldn't not allow me to.

Any ideas? Note that the original drive didn't have this problem, it just wouldn't read.
