Zephyr Jtag Problems (Solved)

im a bit confused, i am about to do my firsdt Zephyr, and it said that i should download an older version, and go to older dash as well. I have read this entire string of messages.
what is my best option? what version do i download? what method to do i use for solder points? transistor method? what is the talk of the 100ohm resister, is that the bridgs for the points instead of directly connecting them? any help is appreciated!!!

just make one with the latest dash mine worked fine on my zephyr have an occasional E79 tho

if it dont work but boots xell use make another .bin with the next to newest dash and name it what ever the name it needs to be for xell (i think its update.bin or something check a tutorial for flashing with xell to be certin)

Re: ** Official JTAG Tool Thread **

so do you recommend the the boxxdr method? and should i have a 100 ohm resiter between the 2 point 4,and 7 of j2d2?

im not component savvy but i the 2 resistors in th boxxdr method actually get soldered together on the under side of the board and there is no actual bridge between the 2 points aside from that.

since i made that recommendation i have had the opportunity to JTAG another zephyr board using the boxxdr method and i get a boot success rate of about 99.9% the other .1% i get an E79

these zephyr boards in my experience are really a pain in the but, i haven't tried the actual alt points now that JTAG tool supports it, tho i have tried manually edit the SMC files and such but i think i messed some thing up there because that never worked for me either.

if you read the tut i linked it says something about how this is the cleanest way to deliver the payload im not sure why that is i just went trial and error on my zephyr because of the issues i have had.

Re: ** Official JTAG Tool Thread **

im not sure what i did wrong, i removed my transistors and redid it, but still get e79. when i remove them, the e79 is gone. i think im going to try the nand-x kit #5. see what happens.

weird did you use normal or alt smc points i usually use normal even tho the tut say to use alt

also is the round part of the transistors facing the heat sync?

how do you do wire them?
i did DB1F1, and AUD_CLAMP

and yes i did face the flat side out.

now i do have a question, the sleeve of trans i bought, included 12, 4 each of 4 different ones. as long as emitter, base collector are oriented right, they should still work shouldnt they? they are NPN trans.

no i use DB1F1 and the ROL point on the under side of the mobo so i can still work on the board out of the case and such

not a clue i dont know much about the components dont really even know what a transistor does (i used the transistor part number described in the tut)

if you read the tut thread i posted it also talks about other transistors that can be used one post actualy gives a transistor part number that can be used in place of the ones in the tut but they have to have the flat side toward the sync.

try looking up data sheets on the transistor's you have on hand and compare them to the data sheet for the transistor used in the tutorial also check pin outs maybe (if you subd the transistor PN) the pin out needs to be reversed

I guess I need to go back and find that tutorial. Is it in this thead? I have been looking up and down, and getting confused as to where I read what, lol

yup right here :p this is the one i followed tho note i did use the exact same part number transistors, i also used DB1F! and ROL points insdead of aud_clamp and DVD_TRAY

how did the 100ohm resistor method work for you, i was considering going this route, but i found something zephyr users seem to swear by according to the thread

Re: ** Official JTAG Tool Thread **

Thanks, ill try that tomorrow morning.
yup NP good luck dont get frustrated with the zephyr in my opinion (tho i have only done a xenon and zephyr) it seems to be the most annoying board to TAG than again my experience is kind of limited atm as far as board variety.

at one point in time my 1st zephyr would power its self on mid NAND read and write for no apparent reason lol

Re: ** Official JTAG Tool Thread **

does any one know if JTAG tool 3.0 automatically includes XB1 BC because i dont see a toggle or any thing like the other versions

i might just be doing some thing wrong also i cant seem to get the XB1 partition created with hdd compat partition fixer v1 i restart and load up .XEX loader v1.1 after runing the app and still only see HDD0: USB0: and Flash:

than again that app says partition fixer not maker so perhaps i am using the wrong tool just making sure i didnt miss any thing
hate quoting myself but does any one have answers to this question im still kind of dumb founded as well as new to the JTAG bit any help would be awesome

bottom of mobo alt. point for rol wire

thanks for showing him that by the way i didnt catch his post that is by far the best ROL point in my opinion as you can always remove your motherboard to work on it VS having the other wire attached to the RF unit outside the metal cage and needing to de-solder it to work on the board

how is it working for you thus far hodgie? keep us posted

Re: ** Official JTAG Tool Thread **

this was an attempted jtag when i got it. it had an e79. even with the jtag wiringremoved, i still have an e79. i think it might be a lost cause. idk? any idea why it would still be an e79 with no jtag wiring? i was up all night working on it.
